Huttopia Lac de Serre Poncon

Short and sweet (ish) visit for two nights here. The drive here was OUT OF THIS WORLD – it fills me with glee just thinking about it. The kids were amazing throughout the driving for the full 3 weeks. We played mannnny games of “What am I,” “I spy” and “Guess the hum” and I kept them stocked up on snacks. It was just so bloody enjoyable, we’re the luckiest.

Up until we pulled into the site, we were thrilled – but then quickly felt those “out of season” vibes again when we realised the glorious ‘lake’ was being emptied, there was structural work going on and we arrived after the site shop had closed. the onsite bar and restaurant wasn’t open and the nearest shop was an hours’ round trip.

Thankfully we had pasta in the van. we had booked a yurt here, but on arrival, discovered the yurt was a fair trek from the carpark – and with all our bags up and down, it felt like too much of a faff – plus we were facing the empty lake and building work.

We went back to reception and asked if we could move, as we were quite a way from the pool/reception etc. it actually didn’t feel like we were even on the Huttopia site.

Not the warmest of vibes from the reception staff and after forking out around £200 for two nights, we were moved to an amazing, modern chalet with spectacular views. It’s worth noting that most accommodation has to be accessed on foot – unless you’re camping.

The route from the car park to the chalet was wet and muddy and our youngest slipped in the mud quite a few times.

The good thing about being out of season was having the pool to ourselves – although it was meant to be heated, the kids teeth nearly shattered with the cold! They just loved having it to themselves though – even more fun was the fact that it was chucking it down with heavy rain.

There is no denying this place is absolutely beautiful but I think it might be better in the summer months when the lake is full and there’s more energy. Sadly it really wasn’t made very clear on the website that it would be so deserted and lifeless with building works and emoty lakes. We were so ready to leave after two nights and our next destination was the highly anticipated EUROCAMP!

Woohoo!
